The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, or IIT Ropar, sometimes also referred to as Indian Institute of Technology Punjab (IIT Punjab) is one of the 8 new IITs which have become functional between 2008 and 2009. The bill for the addition of these eight IITs and the conversion of Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University to IIT was passed in the Lok Sabha in March 24, 2011 and is still to be adopted by the Rajya Sabha.
